Late payments in commercial transactions: European Commission launches information campaign on new Late Payment Directive

On 5 October 2012, European Commission Vice President, Antonio Tajani, launched an information campaign across all 27 EU member states and Croatia, to encourage the speedy incorporation of Directive 2011/7/EU on combating late payment in commercial transactions (Late Payment Directive) into national law, well before the absolute deadline on 16 March 2013. The Late Payment Directive entered into force on 15 March 2011.

The Commission’s Late Payment Information Campaign aims to highlight the issue of late payments among public authorities, businesses, members of the judiciary and other interested parties. Its objective is to change the attitudes of public authorities and business to paying bills on time, and provide businesses with information on the new measures being introduced to support prompt payment.
